There are just too many ACTS of violence, too many valuable lives lost, way too many lives injured, for you the Bar Owner, Bar Manager to not take major significant steps to guard against "Gun Violence". The "FBI" says that it is imperative that if you see something say something.
My Expertise says that if you even see a Person dressed in a Black, long Trench Coat, with a bulky look under their coat, with a non expression face, you take whatever actions necessary to protect everyone around you and in your establishment.
In the Dayton, Ohio Tragedy, the Doorman was pushing people into the bar and doing all he could to protect people.
The Killer thanks to Police, never, ever got into the bar, because they responded within 30 seconds.
This is not always the case.
But, within those few minutes look at how many rounds he got off, how many people he shot and how many people he murdered?
So these times demand you take all necessary steps to try and prevent any deadly tragedy from happening in your bar, club, restaurant.
Vigilance is the #1 Weapon you have.
These are actions you take on when you know you are going to be busy, have a good crowd, be wall to wall, have people waiting to get in.
From An Armed, Plains Clothes Guard outside your door, to closed circuit cameras, that are very well hidden and out of sight, of being dismantled, to
having another armed plains clothes Guard inside as well. These are well trained, low key, but sharp as a tack individuals who will defuse a potential deadly situation in seconds. Pass the cost on in a Cover Charge, in a price increase in your drinks of a minimum amount. People understand that since "Dayton" and "ELASPO", our culture has changed forever. The Police cannot be everywhere.
Look for former Navy Seals, Army Special Ops, that have been cleared by the VA to do such work.
This is an entirely new way of doing business.
After "PULSE" in Orlando, "Ned Peppers" in Dayton, it's time to halt your current method of operating, and totally revise your Security Strategy.
Take nothing and no one for granted any longer.
Owners can no longer take a "Stop In & Leave" attitude. This is your Business, and it is a "people oriented commerce. Thus, you must take the lead, you must be prepared, be aware and be on guard. In this kind of weather covering up a large weapon, and large hundred round capacity clips or more bullets are not easy to hide, unless big black or camouflage clothing, oversized clothing is worn.
The same goes for the Weapon itself.
If you cater to a certain demographic, be aware that they may be targets specifically by individuals filled with hate towards them.
These kind of attacks occur at night, when the largest number of people will be in your business.
Of course your gun caring personnel never ever drink during work or even after work, when they are packing weapons. This Policy is carved in stone.
You can operate your business in denial, but remember this, neither of these two liquor serving establishments, ever, ever thought they would face the "HELL" they went through with such a loss of life. No food/beverage business is immune. Another Security Blocker Measure, is having "Metal or Cement Round Cylinders that installed in front of your entrance, to block any vehicle from driving into your outdoor seating or front entrance.
This is not "OVERREACTING", this is "OFFENSIVE REACTING" to avoid a major tragedy of Carnage. Don't make excuses about $ and the expense, because this is about "LIFE SAVING". This is done on busy nights. The "FBI" is asking in no uncertain terms, If you "Hear Something", If you "See Something", If you notice postings on "Social Media", If you hear rumors, it is far better to speak up now, then regret it for the rest of your life.
Ask your insurance company for an evaluation of your Security, and ask your local law enforcement Officials for their expertise.
I believe that in order to react quickly, to defuse a dangerous. deadly attack, you are prepared to the max.
Some Designer, should design stylish, and yet protective "Kevlar Vests", that no one would ever know they actually are. They would be for Door Personnel, Bartenders, Servers, Managers, everyone in a Food or Beverage Venue to wear, but again, have fashion to them, and not be even obvious that they are worn for protection. No one in the Hospitality Industry even offers such "Wear & Protect" Fashions yet.
Always, remember, that you can post a friendly sign that "You have the right to refuse service to anyone and You have the right to request guests open their purses for inspection"
There is no 100% "Protection Plan", but, there is the right dynamics to have in place on nights when you are busy.

YOU NEED TO PULL OUT ALL THE STOPS. FROM "BRAND PARTIES" AS PART OF YOUR NIGHT, NOT EVER USING A "BRAND PARTY" AS THE MAIN ATTRACTION OF A NIGHT. WHAT YOU WANT TO DO IS BUILD UP A NIGHT LIKE A HOT FUDGE SUNDAE.
FIRST THE ICE CREAM
THEN THE HOT FUDGE
ADD THE WHIPPED CREAM
THROW ON THE NUTS
FINALLY THE CHERRY ON TOP.
YOU USE THE SAME METHODOLOGY WHEN PUTTING A "WOW FACTOR NIGHT" TOGETHER.
I HAVE DONE THIS FOR DECADES.
IT WORKS EVERY TIME.
IT DOES TAKE PATIENCE, AND ORGANIZATION TO INSURE YOU HAVE IT ALL TOGETHER.
THERE ARE NO SHORT CUTS.
EVERY OTHER VENUE IS FIGHTING FOR THOSE SAME DOLLARS YOU ARE.
