Bar Owners, when was the last Summer, you had a "SUMMERPOLOZA"?
You take a Friday Night if it's slow or a Saturday Night if it's slow or a Sunday all day if your normally closed or slow, and you make it the most exciting Event in your area during the entire Summer, except for the July 4th Fireworks.
May is one of the slowest months of the year. But only because most bar, club,sports bar, lounge, bowling center bars, hotel bars, give up on it.
You have the FOOD, DRINK, MUSIC. FASHION, THEMES, CONTESTS, all that appeal to ages 21 to 40 year olds.
You cannot rely on your very old Guests to spend more than they do every day during "Happy Hours".
But you can attract new faces from other places with a "SUMMERPLOLLAPALOOZA".
In fact you should present three different versions of "SUMMERPOLLAPALOOZA", ONE in the end of May, the beginning of Summer, One in July and one at the end of Summer.
With regard to Happy Hour, this flawed logic of 3pm to 6pm makes no sense at all.
Your "Happiest Hours" should be from 2pm to 8pm at your bar area.
3pm-6pm is so distorted, how do you expect a hard working white collar customer who gets off work @5pm to drive to your bar for one hour, just to have a couple of drinks and leave?
Instead you should do what I always did, have "Happiest Hours" from 2pm to 9pm.
Let your Guests eat from a bar menu, let them drink, let them party, let them socialize, most important of all "LET THEM STAY".
Why do bars chase everyone out at 6pm.
No wonder, OUTBACK, CARRABAS, BONEFISH are having major same store sales problems. They can't operate like they use to, those days are over with.
Your appealing to a new generation, that wants it their way not your old way.
If I was the CEO of "BLOOMIN BRANDS" I would focus entirely on the bar business, because they have the food segment down pat. But the money is in the bar. The money is at the bar.
They treat the bar like a lost child. They have the wrong staff behind the bar in many of their units, they have them wearing the wrong uniforms, they don't focus on the look of their bars or the energy at their bars.
They are going to take a major decline this May. Right now their TV Spots are all about a small lobster tail, a small steak, some veggies, and a potato at a price. OUTBACK use to own their Markets, but not anymore.
Bar Owners do serve "SPARKLING ICE"? Well you should for kids, instead of coke or Pepsi. For Adults you should feature six flavors of "SPARKINGLING ICE", and create a bar menu titled "SPARKLING CRAFT COCKTAILS", take the six flavors and combine different liquors, liqueurs , thus featuring Specialty Craft Drinks only available @ your bar.
It's May , challenge your Community to "SPINDERELLA", all Female DJs 21 and over compete for "CASH/PRIZES totaling $1000. Connect with a DJ Equipment Store locally, that wants to sponsor the Event, be a Judge, hang a Huge Banner inside your Club, post their logo and information on your web site, your Facebook page, your Instagram, your Tumblr, your Youtube Video, Yes, maximize Social Media and never ever rely on just one platform.
May can be "MONEY MANIA" for your bar, your club, your Sports Bar, your Restaurant that has a Bar, your Gentleman's Club, your Hotel Bar, Pool Bar, Doesn't matter, just let me show you how to magnify May into a "MAXIMUM MONEY MONTH".
People want to go out, they want to interconnect at a bar, not just drink, talk, maybe dance.
Are you doing everything, I mean everything you should be, to pack your bar four nights a week in May?

Have an outdoor area, set up a kiddie pool, for Females to get some SUN.
Set up Stand up Sprinklers for customers to cool off.

THEY REFUSE TO ACCEPT IT OR HONOR IT.
"CASH WILL ALWAYS BE KING", BUT IT APPEARS "CREDIT CARDS ARE NOW QUEEN".
I WOULD NEVER EVER ADVISE,SUGGEST, RECOMMEND ANY ESTABLISHMENT IN THE FOOD & BEVERAGE BUSINESS ACCEPT ONLY PLASTIC.
IN FACT FOR YEARS, MANY PLACES REFUSED TO ACCEPT AMEX BECAUSE THE TRANSACTION RATES WERE TOO GREAT FOR THEM TO TAKE.
BUT THE LOGIC NOW IS, YOU ACCEPT EVERY KIND OF MAINSTREAM CREDIT CARD THERE IS, YOU ACCEPT CASH, BUT YOU NEVER TAKE CHECKS. THAT'S RIGHT, THE BURN FACTOR IS IN ACCEPTING CHECKS. NOT UNLESS YOU CAN PROGRAM YOUR TRANSACTION MACHINE TO AUTOMATICALLY WITHDRAW THE AMOUNT OF THE CHECK HERE AND NOW.
BUT, GETTING BACK TO ACCEPTING PLASTIC ONLY, I KNOW FOR A FACT, YOU WILL LOSE MORE $ THAN YOU CAN EVEN IMAGINE.

I ALWAYS ACCEPTED PLASTIC AND FOUND WITH AMEX, CUSTOMERS SPENT MORE THAN THOSE WHO USE VISA AND MASTERCARD. ANOTHER FACT. AND FINALLY ANOTHER FACT, SOME OWNERS, PLAY HIDE THE GREEN WHEN FILING THEIR TAXES, BECAUSE THEY ONLY DEAL IN AND TAKE CASH.
RIGHT NOW AGAIN, IN THIS ECONOMY, TAKING EVERY FORM OF AMERICAN CURRENCY, LEGIT PLASTIC, ARE THE ONLY WAYS FOR PEOPLE TO EAT, DRINK & PAY.
"STARBUCKS", YOU JUST CREATED A TOTAL NEGATIVE PR CRISIS.
YES, THE CEO OF "STARBUCKS" IS FLYING INTO PHILLY TO MEET WITH THE TWO GENTLEMEN WHO WERE ARRESTED FOR NO REASON.
THEY ASKED TO USE THE REST ROOM AND SOME MANAGER, TOOK IT UPON THEMSELVES TO CALL THE PHILLY PD, AND CREATE TOTAL COFFEE BEAN MAYHEM.
BULLHORNS, SIGNS, SCREAMING, YELLING, A SIT IN, ( WITH NO ONE DRINKING COFFEE OR EATING ANYTHING FROM "STARBUCKS" ).
THE PHILLY POLICE HAD EVERY RIGHT TO SIMPLY LET THE TWO MEN GO, AND DEFUSE THE SCENE.
INSTEAD THEY INCARCERATED THESE TWO GENTLEMEN FOR 8 HOURS FOR NO REASON.
EVEN THE MAYOR OF PHILLY SAID IT WAS NOT HANDLED PROPERLY.
THIS SOCIETY HAS CHANGED,WAY TOO MANY PEOPLE ARE ANGRY, MAD, CURSING, AND HAVE A NASTY ATTITUDE TOWARDS OTHERS.
THIS "STARBUCKS" INCIDENT IS A PERFECT EXAMPLE.
WHERE WAS THE THREAT?
WHAT DID THESE TWO GENTLEMEN DO TO CAUSE CONCERN?
WHAT DID THEY SAY?
OH, THAT'S RIGHT, THEY ARE "BLACK AMERICANS" SO THEREFORE, THEY ARE GUILTY OF SOMETHING, RATHER THAN INNOCENT OF EVERYTHING.
MR. KEVIN JOHNSON, CEO OF "STARBUCKS", I WOULD GIVE EACH GENTLEMAN $5000. THAT'S RIGHT $5000 JUST BECAUSE OF THE HUMILIATION, THE EMBARRASSMENT, THE ANXIETY, THE HASSLES, THE HANDCUFFS, THE BACK OF THE COP CAR, THE ARRESTS AND BOOKINGS, THE INCARCERATIONS. YEAH, I WOULD HAND THEM EACH $5000. AND APOLOGIZE. BUT THAT'S JUST ME.
INSTEAD, "STARBUCKS",HELPED CREATE A REALLY RACIST,PUBLIC SCENE, THAT ANGERED TYPICAL "STARBUCKS" CUSTOMERS, AND SHOWED A SIDE OF "STARBUCKS", MOST OF US, NEVER THOUGHT EXISTED.

Starbucks said on Tuesday it would close more than 8,000 of its stores in the United States on May 29 to conduct racial-bias training for nearly 175,000 employees.
The move comes amid an outcry prompted by the arrests of two African-American men at a Starbucks location in Philadelphia last week.

THE ENTIRE INDUSTRY HAS CHANGED, FROM YOUR CUSTOMER TO YOUR FORMAT, FROM YOUR FOOD TO YOUR BEER, FROM YOUR LIQUOR TO YOUR WINES, FROM YOUR ENTERTAINMENT TO YOUR MUSIC , FROM YOUR MARKETING TO YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS, FROM YOUR STAFFING TO YOUR MANAGER.

The Polo Grill and Bar, was the #1 place to dine, drink, attend social events, charity events, parties, after a ten year run has closed it's doors for good, under the same Ownership that opened it. It was the mainstay place to be seen in Lakewood Ranch.
Its website carried the message “Polo Grill and Bar is closed indefinitely.”
The bar, restaurant and ballroom business had been at the corner of Lakewood Ranch Boulevard and Lakewood Ranch Main Street for 10 years.
THE CO OWNER with his wife, Jaymie, confirmed that they closed the restaurant and bar after the couple decided not to renew the lease on the property. The Fete Catering & Ballroom part of the business will remain open, under an extension negotiated with landlord, until mid-May to take care of events it had committed to.
“We will be serving 2,500 people this weekend,” The Husband and Wife said. The couple is working to find places for events scheduled later.
About 50 people, some of whom had worked for the Owners for decades, are losing their jobs.
“Obviously the hardest part — in this business, your co-workers are your family,” he said, describing Tuesday, when employees were told of the decision, as “very tearful.”
The slow off-season summer months are coming. But The Owner said he is working to get former employees placed with new jobs.
The Owners made it clear that the couple felt limited by not owning the property and the proposed terms of a new lease had changed the cost-benefit analysis for this point in their lives.
“We’ve been here for a decade,” he said. “We had a big decision to make.
“I’ve been doing this for 45 years. Life is fun and exciting and we find that this had kind of run its course.”
The business had a good relationship with the landlord but “we don’t own the facility,” he said. This is what happens every day in this Country, when Bar Owners sign leases, they don't ask for
Five or Ten Year Extensions, and also rent stated crystal clear.
How do you work day and night, for ten years,
build up a tremendous business, then without any
lease options, you are stuck with trying to have your
Landlord show some compassion and agree to a fair
rent increase. Very rarely happens.
If you don't own the property, you are investing all that money
into capital improvements, that stay with the building and the
property. How nice of you to invest all your $ into a Landlord's
building. So this well known, very popular, "Hot Spot", now
becomes a "NO SPOT", until a smart, shrewd Operator comes
and takes over that building and REMAKES IT, RENAMES IT
and RETURNS THE BUILDING to Financial Success.
No Landlord wants a building sitting idle, generating no income.
Not even those with deep, deep pockets.
"OPTIONS", they are usually five year "Extensions", I always asked for and received two to three of them on my lease.
Or buy the property. You own it. You simply make sure it is zoned for bar or restaurant use and you have plenty of parking, as well as located with alot of visability for traffic coming by. You also check the codes for signs to insure you can install a nice visible and eye candy sign up.
There is alot of investment required, and with partners you have a decision required with every issue, so the best kind of partner is a "Silent Partner".
That would be one, that has "NO SAY", simply invests and is paid back on an interest schedule with the principal due much, much later on.
ONE BAR TRIED AND TRIED AND FAILED @ EVERY ONE OF THESE SO CALLED PROMOTIONS:
THE OWNER SAYS THEY DREW THE WRONG CROWD, AND FEW OF THEM.
ACTUALLY THE OWNER WAS "BAR BEGGING", TRYING ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING TO JUST DO BUSINESS. LOSING SO MUCH MONEY, HE MUST BE SUFFERING A DEPRESSIVE MOOD THAT IS THE WORSE FEELING FOR ANY BAR OWNER.
THAT IS WHY I DO IT ALL. BAR OWNERS HAVE WAY TOO MUCH TO "WORRY ABOUT", FROM THE RENT, INSURANCE, PAYROLL, INVENTORY, TAXES, HOW CAN ANY BAR, ANY CLUB, ANY SPORTS BAR, ANY GENTLEMAN'S CLUB, ANY HOTEL BAR OR POOL BAR OWNER OR MANAGER BE CREATIVE?
